downhole cable protector

After this post, maybe many friends will ask why you write post about protectors as this product is not your key product. Although it is not high pressure pipeline product, not used on well testing process, but it have some connection with wellhead. The most important reason is that one of my customers who run casting protector business for many years doesn’t know stamping cable protector. So I thought I need to put the post ahead.

From protector’s name, we can feel that it is to protect downhole cable which is set between tubing and casing. When assembly tubing, tubing may swing, and tubing coupling would cut control line or cable, so protector is needed as below photo. Protector makes cable or control line attach to tubing.

According to form method, protectors are divided into casting one and stamping one. Their material is normally carbon steel or stainless steel.

According to structure, protectors are divided into mid joint one and cross coupling one.

For casting protectors, we normally adopt two kinds of casting process, lost wax casting process and silica sol casting process. Cost for lost wax casting process is lower, but product roughness for silica casting process is lower. After years research, we combine the two kinds of process to make downhole cable protectors. Sorry that this kind of process is not open to visitors.

For stamping protectors, the forming process is punching.

How to assembly casting and stamping cable protectors? Please see below photos which will help you find out.

For casting protector, we need to use a pneumatic tool gun, but for stamping protector, we need to use big plier.

Till now, we have meet with many kinds of couplings like VAM TOP, NEW VAM, EUE, NU, VAGT and etc.
